Accessibility of this platform 

Books In Print is a discovery tool that searches across your library’s holdings for physical and digital resources. When you select a result on Books In Print, the data is being brought in from another platform. While we try to make the experience of searching and evaluate results as accessible as possible, we cannot control the accessibility of your experience on these external platforms.  

Keyboard Access 

Most of the website can be navigated with a keyboard alone, but there are pages of the site that make navigation take a little more work than usual. 

The Browse page has an expanding column feature where you must get through the complete list before being able to scroll through the list of the selected item. When viewing book title details, when you open the print, email, download, delete, or properties modal windows, the focus is at the bottom of the modal window. To navigate this, you could use Shift/Tab to move the focus backwards through the window back to the top. 

Color Contrast 

While most text throughout Books In Print meets minimum color contrast standards, but there are cases where text does not have enough contrast with the background color. Some cases include the book catalogue number on the homepage and Title details page. Some buttons also have low color contrast, for example, the buttons for the search bar and the Search button on the Browse page. 

If color contrast is a concern for you, we recommend utilizing one of the free browser plugins that can increase text/background color contrast, such as the High Contrast extension for Google Chrome. 

Labels 

Throughout Books In Print, form elements and buttons are given accessible labels, so you can use assistive technologies to determine the purpose of various controls. The majority of elements have labels, but there are a small number of missing labels. In these cases, there are usually adjacent text labels that describe the purpose of the control.  

There are also cases where a form element or button has multiple labels. This may cause a screen reader to not read the appropriate label.

The accessibility of Books In Print is a continual effort at ProQuest. Accessibility standards are built into our design, and style guides and included as part of requirements in our software development and quality assurance pipeline.
